PROBLEM: No Video Capture

Can someone please help me?

1) I have some DV tapes shot on a Canon camera
2) I'm playing the tapes back on a Sony PDX10 DVCAM
3) I'm using Vegas 8.0c to capture the video
4) I'm running an HP XW9300 Workstation, plenty of memory, two screens.
5) My system will not capture DV when the capture option is set to "Always Preview Video." I have to set it to "Smart Preview Video" which then turns off the preview during capture.
6) However, when capturing DV tapes shot on the Sony PDX 10, I don't have this problem! I can run the Vegas 8.0c capture with the option "Always Preview Video."

Does anyone know what's going on here? ALSO...

When I connect the Sony PDX 10 by firewire, turn on the camera for a live feed and capture something live, again, the video won't capture. ONLY IF I choose the option "Smart Preview Video" - then it shuts off preview on the computer screen but IT DOES CAPTURE to my hard drive.

HELP. I've not ever seen this issue before (that i can recall).

I'm not sure what's going on during capture. For DV tape I've always seen the image and heard the sound during capture (albeit sometimes out of sync). But I don't know where the image is coming from. Probably NOT off my harddrive AFTER capture since you can do a "playback" of the tape WITHOUT actually doing a capture. I'd think that the image is coming from the camera or playback unit that houses your orig DV tape. Maybe the Canon camera DV tape was recorded at a slightly different speed or has some other formating problem so that the output from the SONY PDX10 is somehow out of sync enough so that preview just can't display it and hence the option to turn off preview allows the transfer to proceed. Not a huge problem unless you need to preview the tapes to select sections to transfer -- and can't you still do that using the PDX10's LCD ? I know zero about PDX10's.
