Problem opening mt2 audio in Sound Forge

I have Vegas 8 Pro and Sound Forge 8 installed. If I right click on the audio track in Vegas to open in Sound Forge, what happens is that Sound Forge opens with a dialog box inviting me to purchase the MPEG plugin and get an activation code. When I close the box, nothing opens in Sound Forge.

Is this normal? (A) Vegas already reads and encodes to MP3, and (B) I would expect Sound Forge to include an MP3 encoder.

Even stranger, while Sound Forge will open MP3s from the hard drive, it will not recognize or open WAV files (48,000 16-bit) rendered out of Vegas.

I am totally confused here.

I have had a similar issue in the past, though I can't remember the exact detail.

Out of interest, what happens if you right click and then select open a copy in sound forge. I seem to recall that route got me out of a bind previously.

good luck

Thanks Marks, that does indeed work. I think the better practice is to do destructive editing on a copy of the media anyway.
