Problem Opening old .vf Files

I apologize for putting this in the VIDEO section but I didn't know where else to put it and cannot find anything else about this in the forums.

I recently built a new computer, I had a desktop from years ago who's main drive got a bad virus so I took all of my backup hard drives out of my old computer and put them in my new one.

My new desktop has Vegas 11 pro on it, I have several .vf files on my old hard drives that were saved using Vegas 7.0 and some with 5.0. When I try to open these old files with Vegas 11.0 (by double clicking the icon or by opening through the program) i get the following message.

"WARNING, an error occurred while opening one or more files. The application does not support the file type"

I don't know if it's the VF files or something with my registry being different (my old machine ran Windows XP, new one runs Windows 7 ultimate.) I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

VF files are created in the cut down versions of VEGAS PRO. However these VF files do open in the Pro versions of Vegas, I know, I've done it.

So, if you have a fresh and registered install of VEGAS PRO 11 in essence, those VFs should open in VP11. BTW, what Build of VP11 did you install?

However, what concerns me is that you've the old HDs from your system infected PC.

My new desktop is booting from a brand new solid state drive, I only used the d and F drives from my old computer which were storage only. I only access the old infected drive VIA an external HD reader when i need stuff on it and I don't boot from it.

It seems I misspoke, I am using Vegas Movie Studio not vegas pro, (the Comps we have at work all use vegas pro 13 so I have been in the habit of saying that). Does this make a difference?

My copy of Vegas movie maker 11 is new and registered though the VF files I am trying to open were most likely saved by an unregistered version of Vegas 7 (back when I was poor and in High School), would that make a difference?

Thank you for the help Grazie!

So I have been extremely foolish, I solved my problem and figured I would post here in case anyone else comes by the thread.

The .vf files I saved were using (i assume) Vegas 7 PRO which means the cheaper Vegas movie maker could not open them. I downloaded the Vegas 13 pro trial and it opens all of them just fine. Guess that's the final sign that I should go ahead and upgrade. Thanks!

Vegas Pro does not create .vf projects. They are .veg

Actually Vegas 7 is NOT Pro. Vegas 8 was the first Pro.

Vegas Pro does not create .vf projects. They are .vegThat is correct. They are VideoFactory files (VideoFactory = "vf"). VideoFactory was Sonic Foundry's original low-end version of Vegas. It has been renamed a few times over the years, and is now called Vegas Movie Studio, but the "vf" extension has apparently never been changed or updated.

Vegas Pro (the product discussed in this forum) can open these .vf files. Sony does this in order to provide an incentive to upgrade so that people who have purchased the low-end version don't have to re-do any existing projects.
