problem rendering video from the new Flip Mino

Fast Eddie wrote on 7/11/2008, 6:55 PM
Any advice will be appreciated.

I recently acquired a Flip "Mino" it is the greatest thing around for proud grandfathers like me.

The clips are produced in .avi format. After inporting them into Vegas Platinum I cannot get them to render into ANY format. All I get is the sound and a black screen.

Please help this "geezer" if you can.

Regards -

Can you see video during editing? Or is it only during final export that you get a black screen?

Have you got the latest version/update 8.d?

I have been working with AVI's for several years now and found that -for my use - the Morgan codec v3 (costs a little, but they have a trial to test it out first) gives the best result and is most reliable and stable with my MJpeg AVI's and with VMSP.
I do not know if the Mino makes MJpeg AVI's - but it won't take you 10 minutes to try - or you could e-mail (mail me vie the forum mail, and I will return my mail address) me a small test video from the camera (3-5 MB) then I will try it for you on my installation.

Greetings from another proud GrandDad :-)

I can see it perfectly during editing and actually preview it. What happens is that the screen DOES go black during the final save. When I play it all that plys is the sound.

Any advice

Hi Ed

Got the video sample by mail.

First I could not even see the video in preview, so I installed the XVid.org codec.

Now I could preview it, but after rendering: only sound - no video - as you described.

Then I uninstalled the Xvid.org codec and installed the Divx.com codec and now I could preview - and render with both sound and video during rendering and in the rendered video.

So the problem seems to be an issue in the Xvid codec used with VMSP - and if you get i.e. the Divx.com to decode the Xvid input everything should be fine.

Strange, however, as another thread in the Vegas/VMSP forum says the opposite (Xvid works, Divx not)... :-)
