Problem to make a video for DVD

Hello guys,

I have a problem to make a video that i thought would be that simple to make. Sorry if the story gets too long winded.

I have about 4 tapes of 1hr video that i have imported to my computer via FireWire, i guess its stores as a plain avi file (at least it seems like).

I then put all the video together in Vegas 4, with some crossfading here and there. At the moment my project file is set to DV PAL with its default settings)

When i have done everything i want to do, i get a video that is about 50minutes long after all the cutting.

Then i choose Render As: Here i choose MainConcept Mpg2, and Template is DVD PAL.

After i ran the video clip (for testing) i notice that when i move the camera a bit fast, it seems that Mpg2 gives very jagsaw lines, when i hold the camera steady its seems ok?

Is it anybody here that could point out to me what you do when you want to creat a file to put on DVD? the file shouldnt be more then 4GB

BTW: i have software to do the DVD production and make menues, so im not really interrested in the Vegas-DVD description, but it is still welcome as a guideline.

I happen to discover something just now. In the Project settings i can set the field Order, should this one be on lower field, upper filed or Non (progressive scan).

However when i render this and play it back on computer with lower field first, it shows lots of jaggy lines when i move fast. However when i render with Non )Progressive scan) it all seems fine on computer.

My question is which one should i use, as i dont have a Tv i can see if everything looks fine. Even if appears jaggy lines on computer screen, can i be sure those will not be on Tv?

Thanks for any answers that can clearify this to me :)

THe setting should be Lower Field First for both NSTC and PAL.
Becuase its interlaced video and computers always display as progressive yes you will see jagged edges (should like a bit like a comb) but these will not be there on a TV.

Hi farss,

Thanks alot for clearify the matter so fast.

However its another question that just came up. The file size, if the length of the video is only 50min, does Vegas produce a 4 GB file to increase the quality, or does it have a "flat-rate" compression, so if i make a file that is 60min long it will occupie 5GB and if its 40min long it will occupie 3.5B? Can anyone clear this up to me?

Another thing that came up is that i could maybe just make the file as a avi, no compression, and then later i could use a avi to mpeg converter that let me adjust the compression rate for that file, any ideas?
