Problem Updating to Vegas 5.0a

sawrs wrote on 6/20/2004, 1:28 AM
My operating system is Windows XP Home with 3.2 Ghz processor and have used Vegas 4.0 Plus with great success. Desided to upgrade to Vegas 5.0 plus. Installing 5.0 from CD went well, however, when I tried to update to 5.0a from download update site I get an Error Message saying "CRC mismatch". I tried many times to get passed this problem. Even going as far as doing clean re-load of all software. I tried to load just the downloaded 5.0a but same thing. Also download 5.0a several times incase file was correpted. I used highspeed DSL. Does anyone have any suggessions?

You have a bad download. Download it again.

I have tried to down load and install this update about 10 times now and still get the same error message "CRC mismatch installation aborted". Is there anything I can do?

have you deleted the download file before downloading again? Sometimes if you try to write over a download it wont do so properly.

also, are you downloading and then running? Or are you using the "open function" of your browser.

Yes I deleted the previous download before downloading it again and then closed the web site and opening the new download and running it. What does CRC mismatch mean any way?

Apologies if you know this already [ from "Ask Jeeves" - I aint being clever at all! ] :-

"Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)

The CRC is one of the most used techniques for error detection in data communications."

[ I'm particulalry fond of these headings .. .<wink> .. ]

[ and the Party-Time favourite of the '60s .. ]

Chapter 19) Roll Your Own Table-Driven Implementation

[ . .and not forgetting .. ]

Following is a list of the most used CRC polynomials

CRC-12: X^12+X^11+X^3+X^2+X+1
CRC-16: X^16+X^15+X^2+1
CRC-CCITT: X^16+X^12+X^5+1
CRC-32: X^32+X^26+X^23+X^22+X^16+X^12+X^11+X^10+X^8+X^7+X^5+X^4+X^2+X+

. . . . .. . . . . . .

Great Stuff! Thanks, sawrs, if it wasn't for you I would still be in the Dark!

Edward, does this mean I'm a programmer?

Sounds great, however, is there anything I can do about downloading 5.0a and get a uncorrupted copy? As I stated earlier I am using a DSL.

Try downloading to a different drive/computer. Defrag & run scandisk. Are you using a download mngr program? Those can sometimes cause problems (i've only had one/two CRC errors in the past 6 years downloadig via modem with a download mngr. Last time I've had to worry about one was with BBS's).

All else failes, have someone download it for you & put it on CD.

I have tried to download update on two different computers...do not believe I use a download manager. I will try to download at my work computer, which is connected to the internet through a LAN. If this does not work I'm not sure what else to try. I never had this problem before downloading a program and loading on same computer using the same DSL set up. This includes updates for Vegas 4.0 and DVD Arc. 1.0.

Just to let everyone know, I did resolve my problem. I downloaded the update via my work computer and was able to install without a hitch. What I think was going on was that I just installed a new wireless router and for some reason corrupted the download. Thanks to all for their input on trying to solve my problem. Yous make coming to this fourm for help worth the trip.
