Problem with Dark Video

I've been noticing that when I capture video onto my computer the video gets noticeably darker than it was on my video camera. I was wondering if I have some setting set wrong in Vegas or something. What is the best way to lighten the captured video without making it too grainy or blurry?

could be your camera's view finder is to bright. I had that happen once with client footage. I didn't know you could change the b/w viewfinder brightness & was basing the exposure on that!

also, different displays can have different luminance & color settings....

A TV monitor & a computer monitor have different color & luminance values, as an example...

This is why zebra bars are so important, & I always have them on & use them....

If you can afford it, a (properly calibrated) field monitor is a very worthwhile investment.

You can NEVER depend on the camera's LCD for correct color, contrast and brightness. The same applies to virtually all desktop LCD's. (Only a production/studio LCD can be properly calibrated, but they cost north of $5K.).

In the camera, trust the Zebras. In the editing suite, trust the scopes.
