Problem with DVD-R

I have 1 DVD-RW & 4 DVD-R discs with images from recent trip. I began with the DVD-RW and it worked well. I was able to bring it into Vegas Studio and do all the editing I needed. I then attempted each of the 4 DVD-R discs. Each did the same thing: They would not play the entire disc. Instead a small portion of the beginning of the disc would display and play. I could grab the right end of the "film strip" in the track view area and stretch it out. Other scenes were visible but the playback was jerky and kept flipping to the first two scenes on the disc. I was not able to do any editing.
Any thoughts?

I assume this is from a camcorder that records to DVD and / or I assume this is video you've recorded to these DVDs?

If so have you finalised the discs?

What brand and model number of camera is it?

Don't know how much I can help you but I'm certain they're the first question anyone will need the answers to.

I have a new Sony 105 camera and record to Sony discs only. All discs were finalized. Interestingly, the finalized DVD-R disc plays perfectly when placed back into the camera. Within Vegas it only plays and recognizes two short clips and plays them over and over. When I strech the "film strip" I can see parts of all of the other clips but Vegas will only play parts of them with numersous flickers back and forth to all other clips. I cannot access any of the other clips. Very strange!

Your computer DVD drive needs cleaning, those are symptoms of dust on the pickup lens.

Best way is to shoot some canned air onto the lens inside, otherwise there are special cleaning discs you can pop in to do the job.

How are you importing the files? Are you going File>Import>DVD Camcorder Disc...........

That's how i do it. Occasionally I have to right click the DVD Drive from the Explorer and select 'explore current folder' , then drag and drop it into the timeline.

Thank-you! I brought the DVD-RW clips in simply by moving the files onto my hard drive and then opening them throuh the explorer tab within Vegas. The DVD-R clips must, as I now know, be brought in as you stated by file>Import>DVD Camcorder Disc.

Thanks again....I am now happily making videos.
