Problem with Quicktime in 9.0a

Anyone else have a problem with Audio not rendering from Quicktime files place on the time line? I have the latest Quicktime pro installed, and have tired updating it with no luck. Using Vegas Pro 9a - Here what I'm trying to do.

I'm converting a bunch of VHS tapes from my clients portfolio. So I've captured them through my camera as DV and since they needed Quicktime. I cut them up and I rendered the spots individually using: Quicktime DV/DVC Pro - NTSC with IMA 4:1 Audio.

So far so good.

Now I also need to produce a playable DVD using Nero. So pull my Quicktimes into the time line, pan/crop slightly to clean up the edges and render out as MC mpeg-2 with audio embedded (DVD NTSC Template). So Nero will not have re-encode.

This is where I'm running into a problem.

There is no audio encoded on rendered files. I've checked the settings and the audio should be present. The audio does plays in the preview and shows on the time line. So it's not muted.

The same thing happens when I render as an AVI, using the default NTSC DV template. The result is no audio on the rendered file.

If I grab a video from my archive in AVI format video, placed on the same time line and render. I get a file with audio intact. So my project setting appear to be correct.

The Quicktime files, do render normally in Vegas Pro 8c , with audio intact. So I can just work in Vegas 8 or just trim, convert and burn in directly in Nero or else where.

But I would like to know if there is something wrong with my system or if I found a bug. I have to share content between Mac and PC, so I really need Quicktime to work. And it has always worked for me in the past.

Any ideas?

IMA 4:1 Audio only works with 16-bit audio. Is that what you are using?

Thanks for the help John,

I've check both the project and render, they appear to be set to 16 bit, I could be missing something; but that doesn't doesn't appear to be the problem.

I did another quick test, render of just the audio to a .WAV file using the same file and project setting. The resulting file works, so I am able to access the audio from the time line.

I was able to render the Quicktime files directly with Nero. The resulting DVD plays correctly, so it appears the files are encode correctly and Quicktime is being accessed by the system correctly.

I've reset preferences and killed various background tasks with no luck.

I guessing something on my system is screwed up. It was stupid I know, but I did install Studio 12, the other day, and new drivers for my MIDI Keyboard, so I'm guessing that hosed something in the process. I try installing 9a, on my laptop tonight to see if the problem occurs there.

i've had a few problems with audio from an imported Quicktime *.mov with 4 channels of audio

tracks 1 & 2 would play but tracks 3 & 4 would sometimes play in the preview
sometimes it wouldn't

Rendering it from a project where the audio wouldn't play resulted in a render with missing audio

I was worried something went wrong with my Echo Audio 3G ASIO driver

I've given up on vegas 9 and moved back to vegas 8

It looks like I'll have to move back to 8 for most of my projects as well. Bummer

I tried everything short of a full system install which I really would like to put off a few months as I plan to move to Windows 7 once it ships.

I did find that Quicktime files with uncompressed on the time line will render with the audio intact. So I'll just with that until its fixed, I find my problem or a work around is found.

I've got the exact same problem, and have found that if I SOLO the audio and leave it soloed, it then *usually* will render to the output file. Why? Beats me, and Sony has been of no help with any of this, but there must be issues with their *version 1.0 ASIO driver* I'll bet.

Have had problems with every project I've done in Vegas, both 8 and 9 (different crashes and mayhem), and am going to have to head back to using Adobe I suppose. It was always very stable and predictable, though expensive. The time and money I have wasted on Vegas would have been paid back by now.

I've been having a similar problem, though I didn't suspect it might be related to using .mov files. No audio on render. For me, the problem seems to involve using plugins on the quicktime stream. No plugins, and the audio renders. I actually did an audio-only export to workaround the problem, then re-imported the audio into a separate track. Clumsy, but it worked.
