Problem with Rendering Audio

HELP!!! Everytime I try to render a project one of two things happen.

1) The Approximate Time counter just keeps counting up and up. (I left it running overnight and it came back with 9 hours of Approximate time left) and stays at 0% done.

2) I get an error message: An error occurred while creating media file. Unable to mix audio. The operation timed out.

What's the deal and how can I fix it?

sounds like trouble shooting time.

a little more info would be helpful: describe computer, which software do you have, and what programs are running besides your Vegas movie studio.

next: what type of audio (and video) was your source, and what type of project were attempting (DVD, VCD, etc.)

is this audio file copy protected?

that ought to get the ball rolling
