Problem with separate audio

Januszb wrote on 4/10/2003, 6:15 AM
I've just finished my first project in VV 4.0 ( after 2 -years experience with Adobe Premiere)
I decided to use MainConcept MPG2, select the template settings for the DVD Architect format. As a result I received .mpg file - only video - no audio.
Now I rendered audio - selected the AC3 output and stereo template.
As a result I received .ac3 file
Both files (.mpg and ac3) have the same name and are in the same directory.
In DVDA I opened New project and pulled .mpg file into it, prepared menu..etc..
In Media Properties window video appears as my .mpg file , audio - NONE.
I opened SET AUDIO and pulled my .ac3 file.
When I started MAKE DVD I noticed, that in OPTIMIZE window every part of my project appears twice!!! Of course it is impossible to burn DVD from project estimated size over 8 GB!
When I remove .ac3 file - everything seems to be ok.. but still no audio..
Anyone can explain why in DVDA exchange Audio in Media Properties is impossible??
I cannot create another audio track.. Why in Vegas exists template especially prepared for DVDA with only video, when I cannot pull another audio file in DVDA?

I am using PAL templates...

If you have multiple links to the same video (e.g. scene selection menu), you have to set the audio in all links.

I have a very similar question. And I apologize for not understanding SonicSDB's response.

If I render two different projects just like 'Januszb', I will end up with four (4) different files: file1.mpg(video only), file1.ac3, file2.mpg(video only) and file2.ac3. In DVDA - new project - is it correct that I only have to drag file1.mpg and file2.mpg into the project and not worry about the .ac3 files?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

Correct, as long as the filenames are the same and are in the same directory, DVDA will find the AC3 file automatically when you pull in the MPG files (at least it's always done it for me).

Bob,
If you have problem with this function, go to OPTIONS menu, choose PREFERENCES and GENERAL. Look for "Automatically link similar audio & video files" This function should be enabled.

Many thanks to both of you. I really appreciate the help.

I had the same problem. I reserve a drive just for doing a DVD project and I would simply place my files in the root of that drive i.e. D:\video.mpg & D:\audio.ac3 .
But DVDA needs to have these files in a folder not just in a root drive. So once I made a folder in my reserved drive i.e. D:\project\video.mpg & D:\project\audio.ac3 ,
DVDA recognized them appropriately.
Thanks for the help.
