Problems burning to DVD

We're still getting too many coasters. We render to mpeg2 in MS, author in Ulead VideoFactory. DVD's will freeze part way though playback, or will temporarily stall than continue playing. We have tried different media, different computers, and different burners, current burners being Plextor PX-708a and Sony DRU-510A with most current firmware. We have about a 50% error rate. Could it be Ulead? Any ideas anyone?

My setup is similar to yours. I have Screenblast 3.0a, ULead DVD Movie Factory 2.0 SE and a SONY DW-U10A burner. My understanding is the hardware in the DW-U10A (OEM) is the same as the DRU-510A (Retail) with just the firmware being different.

I did have problems using Memorex DVD media with my burner and now use Maxell exclusively. The Memorex DVD media also had problems playing back on several different home players as well as the DVD player in my computer. I am sure the problem with Memorex media playing on home players is due to how it was burned and not necessarily with the media itself. I found several postings on the internet regarding other people having problems with particular brands of media and SONY burners. Memorex was among those brands along with SONY media as well.

I have not had a coaster or playback problem since switching to Maxell media (both -R and +RW).

Hope this is of some help...

you mention trying different pieces of the authoring process.. have you tried a different dvd player when viewing it?

Sometimes DVD players have issues with various media and encoding... I know there are a few low end units that just refuse to play home brewed dvds without issues regardless of media... but when you spend $29.99 for a dvd player - issues are to be expected. (not that I am assuming you have the el cheapo model).

Does the playback give issues if you play it back on the PC dvd viewer?
