I'm working from clients master CDs and find I'm getting the odd error using Vegas to extract the audio. On one CD it has repeated an entire phrase, not exactly an obvious problem when I'm processing 16 CDs worth of audio. I was running the extraction at 8x off a Plextor drive so I'd have thought things should be pretty reliable but it seems not.
I'm trying again at 4x to see if I get a better read. I've also tried using Plextools and Nero which at least does flag any non recoverable errors but Vegas just seems to take a 'best guess' which doesn't seem overly professional.
Which is the best tool for doing this? Bear in mind my projects involved reading in HUGE amounts of audio simply for basic editing and format conversion. The read process has to be 100% reliable, to go back and check that amount of audio is going to add dramatically to the cost to the client.
Of course it's possible that the CDs I'm working from are not as good as they should be or is it possible being audio masters they can only be read at very low speed?
