Problems trimming beginning of videos

Derrygeel wrote on 1/27/2025, 5:22 AM

I've just started using Vegas Pro 22 to trim videos, with limited success.

Please note I am extremely untechy and unfamiliar with the language used.

Let's day the part of the video I want starts at Point A and ends at Point B. When I trim from B to the end it works, no problem. When I trim from A to the beginning, it doesn't truly delete, it merely blackens the initial part, up to point A.

Any advice? In simple language?

I'm using Windows on a laptop.

@Derrygeel Hi, there is a link that asks for information https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

In simple terms it asks for

  1. Your PC specs - full name of your CPU (Processor), full name of your GPU (Graphics card), amount of RAM (Memory) & what Windows version.
  2. Information about the media you're using, it asks for MediaInfo to share this info -

MediaInfo is an App, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Or Copy & paste the information in a new comment like this

You can share screenshots & video of the Vegas UI using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment.

“it merely blackens the initial part, up to point A.” I suspect that this is just empty space on the timeline after u have deleted that piece.

Select the remaining video and drag it to the start of the timeline.

As 3point says, if u want to automatically move your left over video after deleting sections first enable "Auto ripple" CTRL-L.. It's located by default near bottom. Make sure to select one of three options that suits your project.

I nearly always elect to use "All tracks Markers and Regions". Make sure to disable if not required when doing further editing.

A usefal red coloured frame now appears as warning that Auto ripple is still enabled.

@Derrygeel enable rippling mode in the timeline toolbar and trimming will automatically ripple the events on the timeline.

I'll try these and see what happens
