Problems with every DVD software out there.

Personally I'm going to say that I have not come across a DVD burning app that has even worked with what I like to do, let alone work at all.

DVD-A - which is a nice looking program and goes hand in hand with Vegas doesn't burn with my Brand new plextor, period. 708a model. It hangs right when it's supposed to burn. It's sad because DVD-A is the only one that seems to burn AC3 files in true 5.1. Using various programs here is what I end up with.

My DVD is completely garbage. It doesn't recognize the extension .AC3 and it states it does do Dolby Digital. What's that about????

The only audio I could get to work with MyDVD in 5.1 was the rare DTS. I used a DTS encoder, which I'm sure hardly anyone uses, but thankgoodness I have one.

Roxio said the file made from Procoder was too big???? I thought everything is locked to 9.8 mps? That's what Procoder locked it at.
Last time I checked Roxio burned the DVD fine, but alas, it turned 5.1 Dolby in pro logic. I believe I made the file in Vegas too.

Personally I like DVD-A the best because it's got many options the other don't but it works the LEAST. Sure Vegas 4 works fine and exports everything I would need to make a nice DVD, but then it doesn't burn anything. If the DVD-RW is in the drive, no device shows up. If I eject the DVD-Rw or even DVD-R it then allows me to view the device and select it, but then right when I see a progress bar the thing died and says error.

What else can I do?

Try DVD Workshop. You don' t need the AC3 plugin for it. Render to video elementary stream and AC3 from Vegas and mux to an .mpg using TMPGEnc. Then author with DVDF Workshop.

Well, you missed the obvious: Prepare the DVD in DVDA and then use the software that came with the drive to BURN the DVD using the folders prepared by DVDA.

Yea I tried burning the .vob files using Nero and it's a no go. I lost the DTS stream, and AC3 5.1 turns into standard pro logic crap.

I had 3 files of the same movie right in a row.....junk!

There's simply no way I can burn a Dolby Digital DVD with DVD-A, Roxio, or the highly rated MyDVD.

I guess I'll look into Ulead DVD workshop. Ridiculous.

Plus Nero does a very bad job on making the DVD. The audio was scratchy in parts and I think it re-encodes the video. Personally DVD-A sounds great, too bad it's a non-functioning product for me. This is the error code I get.

Make something happen with DVD-A version d. As far as I have seen it's the most capable in audio terms thanks to Vegas 4. Ac3 with HDCD encoding, nice touch. Dolby Digital EX too..... Where's DTS-ES. Just kidding.

Pile on the burning apps, eventually nothing will work- we see this reported just about every day in this very forum.

If you have the time and inclination, try uninstalling all of the other DVD burning apps, then try a re-prepare/burn with DVDA (even a short project would do for diagnostic purposes). Most of the time this will solve the "can't burn with DVDA" issue. Can't say for sure because we don't have your Plextor burner here.

As I've said repeatedly, I know of no reproduceable scenario where installing installing DVDA will break other burning apps. The opposite is not true and there's not much we can do to prevent other apps from overwriting files we need.

If it helps any, I have the latest version of Nero & DVDA, no burning problems.

Nero shouldn't be doing what you describe burning vobs and it shouldn't be reencoding the video.

Personally, I use Prassi Primo DVD to burn VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS if I go that route.

DVDA works fine for me, though....

You've got something else going on if Nero is in any way changing the audio, video, or anything else. All it should do is copy the files. I've used it many times on DVDA projects. Why? Because it lets me add data files to my DVD, something that DVDA should allow. It also gives me accurate estimates of when it will be finished which, while a minor issue, helps me be ready with the next thing I want to do. DVDA, by contrast, will tell me that there is twenty minutes left in the burn and then suddenly pop out the disk and tell me it's done. This is especially true when doing a 4x burn on my Pioneer A05.
