Problems with importing DivX/XviD

I use to be able to import divx and xvid files before I formatted, but since then, I have not been able to. When importing an xvid file, it doesn't even acknowledge that there is a video component to the file, and it just adds the audio to the timeline. I have no idea what settings/codecs or what other things I am missing that I had before I formatted that I am now unable to import xvid... I've tried the obvious codecs, and a few codec packs, but still no luck... Any suggestions would be incredibly appreciated!

For the longest time, you couldn't open XviD files in VMS. Then, starting with builds created after January 26, 2003, it started working. Unfortuately, that didn't last long and it was broken again sometime after that date (I'm not sure exactly when). Bottom line, XviD and NLE's don't mix.

DivX files should work just fine with the latest version.

So what are your options? You could:
1) Change the fourCC of the AVI to DIVX so it uses DivX to open the file in VMS.
2) Open the XviD file in VirtualDub and re-render it another format (uncompressed or HuffYUV).
3) Find an old copy of XviD from early 2003.
4) Use an avisynth script to open the file.

As you can see, none of the options are particulary elegant.
