Problems with video with only audio no video preview

Cla8 wrote on 8/30/2023, 11:59 PM

Have had this problem with Vegas20 Not showing the video but the audio is the only thing that works. I'm very new to this program and was wondering why it isn't showing. Have all the correct things clicked. View-Window-Video Preview Clicked and I haven't found anything else to fix it.

.

Plus: I have all the correct things clicked for OBS as to what others have said

I purchased Vegas 20 when it came out and I have been trying to get it fixed ever since i bought it. I gave up a while ago and now im back to trying to get it up and running. I don't want to give up on it since I did spend a good penny on it.

I just tried the Visual C file repairs & .NET runtimes didn't have a repair on them, so I didn't mess with them. I also did a clean wipe on my graphics drivers and reinstalled them and that didn't seem to work either.

I've had Windows 10 on this computer for about 2 years so far.

I'm completely stumped and kind of dis-hearted that it probably won't work for my machine.

We advised you MKV don't work reliably in VEGAS. How are you doing the remux?

@Cla8 - I’m sorry for your experience, very frustrating. I’m sure we can at least identify what’s stopping you from going forward. VP20 is working great for me so, let’s get started:

1 - Authenticity of your VP20? Have you registered it?

2 - Your PC speccs?

3 - What is the MediaInfo telling you?

4 - Do you have the latest BUILD of VP 20?

Grazie wrote on 8/31/2023, 12:21 AM

@Cla8, do what @RogerS has advised first. That could very well be the solution. 😉.

OBS automatically Remix’s The Video down to MP4

1.I Have registered My product when I purchased it.

2. i9-13000k, 3060ti, 64gb DDR5, Windows 10.

3. Media info?

4. I Just Updated my Vegas20 when I reopened the application.

Nothing has worked.

@Cla8 - Sure. But what’s inside that MP4? Also, did you match the Media to the Project Settings? There’s a nice and simple way of doing this in the top right corner of Project Settings.

Just Audio & The screen Recording of the video. Yes! I had to watch tons of videos on trying to do that and none of that worked. So I came to this forum to see what else I can try to do to fix it.

Grazie wrote on 8/31/2023, 12:36 AM

@Cla8 Thanks for adding your information. Your PC looks great, liking the i9 and the GPU. MediaInfo should now be available within VP20? It will alert us to exactly what’s inside that MP4.

Yeah, I’m starting to ride along with @RogerS comments. Do you have any other Video you could test? Something that’s worked with your edition of VP19?

Do try the matching Project Settings to Media, it’s awfully straightforward.

Thanks! Spent a pretty penny on it to try to make & Edit Photos and videos and this is where I’m at haha.

I’ve Tested 5 Videos. 3 Videos from OBS that have been Remux’d from OBS, 1 From Handbrake, & the last Video from my phone to make sure it wasn’t just the computer. This is the first version of Vegas I’ve owned (Vegas 20). I Matched up all 5 and nothing worked in my Video Preview screen only audio.

@Cla8 - Back up the bus here!

Just Audio & The screen Recording of the video.

Did you separately record the Audio and then the Video? Please help me here?

No, When you screen record on OBS it captures your display & audio. If I open the media on Windows media it works completely fine but once I place it into Vegas only the audio works like the video isn’t there but it clearly is.

Another thing in the Vegas Picture I showed when I posted this. You can see the video and audio in there. It’s just not including the video in the preview screen. So that’s what I’m trying to fix.

@Cla8 - Thanks for your detailed replies. I also have OBS. I’ve never used its output for VP20 editing. I’ll give it a go too 😉. I’m be got other live capture sw and that works.

OK, if you tried other formats and none work, then at the very least you could be looking at a Factory Reset VP20 or if that doesn’t work then a complete uninstall/reinstall of VP20.

Again, I’m real sorry you can’t get going. Just be reassured that there are many many VP20 users out there working away.

@Cla8, See if you have the MKV experimental option enabled in Options > Preferences > File I/O tab.

I couldn't get the mkv file from OBS to load into Vegas until I enabled that option.

@Robert Johnston - Thanks for stepping in. Good advice. Hopefully that will solve @Cla8 issues with OBS. Here’s the kicker, it’s happening with “other” media too, viz phone content.

Try the benchmarks in my signature and if it plays back the problem is the conversions.

Could it be something as simple as the Solo or Mute button being activated? Just asking.
