1) Dl the 4b update exe file.
-edit- wait a long time if you're on dial-up ;)
2) Run executable - say yes to overwrite where applicable
3) enjoy

Thanks for the two suggestions. For the people that have upgraded 4a to 4b, have you had success with just overwriting with 4b? Or, is it really necessary to delete all possible references to Vegas?

I just installed on top. Worked fine.

I overwrote the original installation and it worked fine for me also.

You could wait a short time and save a step -- 4.0c is due soon <g>. Fixes a few bugs (there will be a readme).

Do you know how soon?

It's in final testing right now. 4.0c is bug fixes only.

Sooo... SonicD - I'm still on 4.0. Are you suggesting I go:

4.0 > 4.0b > 4.0c OR can I go directly 4.0 >>> 4.0c

Grazie

Grazie, having a busy week? SonicDennis already answered your question up above.

Well actually Tor, I don't understand "having a busy week? " - What I DID read above was, "You could wait a short time and save a step -- 4.0c is due soon <g>. Fixes a few bugs " - was the comment that confused me. It fixes a few bugs from 4.0 OR/AND 4.0b - that's what I'm confusing myself about. - Actually I've had a smashing time this past week up on the North Norfolk coast, filming and walking - y'know the other side of the North Sea to Norway, Sweden etc etc?

"having a busy week? " . . . . hmmmmm..... Are you implying I didn't have time to read the thread and that I should have? Thanks for that, - but I do tend to read what has gone before - not to do this would be both impolite and presumptious if not a little rude - y'know? Just to jump in and not see what has come before - I'm sure you know what I mean. - Ahhh, I think I now understand where you are coming from. . . . . . still, some clarity from SD would be really neat.

Grazie

Overwriting has worked OK for me also.

At least the North Sea had a busy week - no, not because of Grazie's presence - but because of strong winds and heavy rain. (The North Sea usually exports all of its weather to the South West of Norway, where I live, and that's the kind of weather we had last week.) But then you must have gotten some great footage if you were filming outdoors.
I'm sorry about the insinuation, it seemed so obvious when DavidPJ first said he was planning to upgrade his 4a, and SonicDennis said he could skip a step by waiting for 4c. I am waiting for 4c, and if there is nothing on the download page advising against it I will install on top of 4a. (Installing on top has worked with all Sonic Foundry products I have ever upgraded - quite a few. But then I never installed any betas.)
By the way Grazie - I've a ticket for London just before December 1. I'll be staying in Knightsbridge, very near the Conran Shop in Sloane Avenue, but am moveable for the purpose of downing a couple of pints. Young's Special Bitter is the favoured poison.

Tor - Dec 1 sounds good for me - so far!!! - Yup the scenary was great - cameraman needs even more training!!!! - Anyways was able to practice my "horizon" techniques. BIG skies and sand dunes - beautiful.

Back to the "updating" issue I'll wait with baited breath for the first adopters to try it out on 4.0a.

As follow-up to my original posting, I installed 4b over 4a without any problems. I would have waited for 4c but I upgraded before comments were made about the upcoming release of 4c. Thanks for the info!

You can install 4.0c on top of any of the previous 4.0 versions.
