ProCoder Express will frameserve

I just tried it yesterday. I used Satish's framserver AVI and served it out to Procoder Express from Vegas with no problem. It took about 2.5 hours longer then to produce the final elemental streams (m2v and PCM .wav) than did creating an AVI using the regular codec and TmpegNC to get my elemental streams. I did a 1hr and 52 min. video in 20:55:42 frameserving to PCE. My PC has an AMD 1.5 gHz processor and i gig DDR. I really don't mind the length of time much. ProCoder express ran at .07 to .10 of Realtime.

How's the quality of ProCoder Express compared to the others?

Thanks,

Marc

RE: How's the quality of ProCoder Express compared to the others?

Marc I am putting the PCE coded video (m2v) on a DVD rw tonight but I wont get a good look until tomorrow, I'll post back then. I used TmpegNC on the same clip so I'll compare to that.

OK this is a visual between the two PCE and TmpegNC both renderd m2v video and PCM .wav audio. Both were renderd at an average bit rate of 6000 bps. ProCoder Express seemed to have greener greenes and bluer blus and and an overall sharper result. The source was a VHS tape of a program from a cable TV transmission (not Digital). But TmpegNC has a few other features that PCE lacks like the ability to join mpeg files (havn't done that). PCE's wizard is good and the "watch folder" thing is great too. I read on the Canopus Forum for PCE that it uses the same engine as the full Procoder 2.0. For now though I'm going to use PCE for my production work and keep TmpegNC around jusr in case I need something it has that Procoder Express does not.

Does PCE have the master quality settings that are found in the full version?

Once you load a video file an advanced setting button appears there as well as one for thes output if that's what you mean by a master quality setting. I'M sure the full ProCoder has more settings thaen the Express version though.

Only ProCoder full version has the mastering quality which makes sense for Canopus but is a bummer for us. I'm reading some bug reports on the Canopus Procoder Express forum that are keeping me from buying the program at present. People are saying they are having problems encoding files longer than 30 minutes from Premiere Pro. I'm not sure if it affects the standalone version but will wait a bit as it's a fairly new program.

That is what has kept me from purchasing PCE. I went to the websites and forums and they didnt mention the different quality settings like the ones i was playing with the full demo. I guess for that price point Canopus has to remove a lot of features.

I think im going to save up my Pescos for the full version.

Those bugs seem only to be associated with the Premier plugin, I have rendered 1.5 and 2 hours respectively with the stand alone PCE and have not seen any problems so far. If I had the pennies extra though I would go with the full Procder 2.0 when it comes out. But alas and to my joy, my wife was good enough to get me Vegas keyboard from RSVP so I'm happy with PCE for now.
