Product Registration

I'm posting this on behalf of a potential UK buyer.

The user has two PCs - one on the net for general work and one off it, used exclusively for editing. The plan is to download VMS to the general purpose PC and then transfer it to the editing PC, where it will need to be registered. Can anyone explain how this can be done, please, preferably without having to make international phone calls.

Hi Ian,

I have just installed VMS 7 and my understanding is that you could install it straight onto the PC that is not on the net. During rego you can select to register from a different PC.

To do this you have to place a floppy diskette (or similar device like a USB memory stick) into the PC and it creates a file on that. Then you take it to your other PC and do something there.

I'm a little hazy on the details, but that is how I did it when I registered my demo copy and it worked fine.

That's pretty much correct. It creates a URL file on the floppy/memory stick/etc. Browse to that URL and your serial number is sent to SONY and an activation key is generated in a .reg which you can save back on that floppy. Double-click the .reg file on the Vegas PC and the activation is completed.
