i'm in the market to buy affordable production monitor so i can use it both color correcting the footage at home and bringing it to the shoots. I was thinking of this 9" monitor from JVC:
Patryk,
That's a pretty good monitor, we have a couple of those here. For just a bit more, you can get a Sony PVM L2, which is a more common standard, but the JVC is easy to use, warms up nicely, and is certainly a nice choice.
THank you guys. Often it seems you pay extra with SOny for the logo so i just wanted to confirm that the JVC doesn't quite early on or something. SO i quess i'll be going with JVC then.
That's a very nice monitor, I prefer the L2 series, and smaller, but some folks have the room for bigger ones. If you do go for it, be sure the guns are still in good shape. From B&H, they usually are.
This PVM-20L1 is quite nice, but be careful how abusive the demo has been. Quite recently, when looking for a used control monitor, I was bitterly surprised a few times. My final choice has been JVC TM-H150, which was the best new over-700-lines monitor I could get for my budget. I don't regret my decision, but I'm contemplating purchasing an additional component or SDI card.
yup, we have 2 of these for on-set use, and I love them. I use the 14" in my office for most external work, same model.
They can connect via composite or Y/C, unless you spring for a component or SDI card. Y/C is just fine for most folks, SDI gets expensive.
You'll use a firewire converter like the SD Connect, ADS, or Canopus products to convert the digital signal from the computer to an analog signal for the monitor. In my office, I use a Panasonic DV2000 deck or a DSR 25 deck, depending on which system I'm working on.
