Profiles-Minimal Hardware/Services Required

I have my Windows XP Pro setup with two Hardware Profiles and two User Accounts.

1st- Is for the my everyday PC (Internet, Email, MS Office, etc) with most of the Services started and all Hardware enabled. I Log on using my primary User account with most background programs running including Antivirus, Firewall, Antispyware, etc.

2nd - Is is for using only Vegas, Forge, Cubase (no email, Office, Email, etc) - It has the LAN adapter and all the hidden miniports disabled, Printer and LPT1 disabled and any other hardware not needed - I also have many of the Services disabled -- I use my "Video Edit" User Account to logon with this hardware profile with only the "needed" background programs running. So it's disconnected from the Internet, Antivirus is disabled, Anti-Spyware and Firewall programs are not started (both through the Registry, Startup folder and Services) - this way I have a fast, uncluttered PC for video editing. Even the Desktop and Start Menu is setup to only show Audio and Video programs and select folders.

My problem is, when I startup Vegas, I get an error message, "An unknown error has occurred" (not very helpful), then I click "OK" and I can use Vegas. The only difference I see between Vegas starting up in the 1st Hardware/Primary Logon vs. the 2nd Hardware/Video Logon is the "Opening Media Library window" does not appear in the 2nd. So I think the error is related to the new Sony Media Library application. In the Services, I have not disabled the SQLAgent$SONY_MEDIAMGR service (nor any of the other Sony media related services) - so that is not the problem.

My question is: Is there is a list of the minimal required Hardware, Services and Programs that are needed to run Vegas & the Media Library? Having a system that is isolated from the Internet, free of Antivirus, Firewalls and Antispyware really is the way to go I think and I hope that someone knows "the" Service(s)/Hardware to re-enable that will resolve this problem. - Thanks!

I got the following list from (I think) the Sony Customer Service section some time ago. It might have to be updated but at least it's a start.

Close all background applications. This is not limited to the
programs that show in the system tray. Do a ctrl+alt+del and end
task or process on as many applications as you can, leaving only
Explorer and Systray for 98 or ME. For Windows 2000 and XP
move over to the Processes Tab and click the "Image Name"
heading at the top of this window twice, you would be able to view
these items by alphabetical order. For Windows 2000, you should
only have:

explorer.exe
lsass.exe
mapisp32.exe
mstask.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
spoolsv.exe
stisvc.exe
svchost.exe
system
system idle process
taskmgr.exe
winlogon.exe
winmgmt.exe

For Windows XP, you will only need next to your user name:

explorer.exe
taskmgr.exe

Next to "system":
csrss.exe
lsass.exe
mspmspv.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe
system
system idle process
winlogon.exe

WOW!

Didn't know that was so long - sorry.

Search the Knowledge base for Error under Vegas. It will be one of the first things to show up.

Thanks!! That link answered my question - it was the "Terminal Services" that was needed to be running. So now it is enabled under both profiles and I no longer receive that error!
