Program keeps crashing

I am able to import media files, edit, save, add text, transitions etc but then I try to render, I select 'Advanced options' and it crashes. It will, however, render if I just click 'Next', ie without going to 'Advanced options. I never had this with version 16. I have noticed that after it crashes and I close the program, there are two background processes running in Windows, one of them running 35% CPU, the other zero.

One more thing: I suspected the GPU acceleration, which was set to 'Optimal - Intel HD Graphics 2500' so I set it to 'off'. I then noticed 1) how quickly the program loaded and 2) how quickly the project file loaded. With the setting set to Intel, both the program and project load actions took ages - maybe 4-5 time longer with lots of the spinning wheel (hourglass) and not responding showing repeatedly in the top left of the screen.

I'm pulling my hair out (or would be if I had any!

Windows 10 Home Version 1809 (OS Build 17763. 1158)

And what is your hardware exactly?
Processor, storage, where is C:/ with the programs installed, possible GPU and driverversion?

Most processors with this

Intel HD Graphics 2500'

are too weak for this program

It would seem that one of the File I/O plugins is not working well with this GPU (which is below system requirements).

Hi j-v, thanks for your reply.
The processor is an Intel Core (TM) i5-3470s CPU 2.9GHz.
It only has one disc, C:/ drive which is a 960GB SSD - everything is on this drive.
Driver Version 10.18.10.4425 dated 4/4/16.

That is the weakest to use for this program, but not for 4K sourcefiles. What are your sources exactly?

Driver Version 10.18.10.4425 dated 4/4/16.

If that is the driver for your Intell GPU it is very old.
Try to use the latest the 15.33.50.5129 of 3/25/2020.
But if it goes all well during rendering? I don't know because better is to render with only CPU and sometimes ( if available) get help of a seperated GPU.
And to follow @VEGASDerek : disable in preferences I/O file the use of a CPU.

Many many thanks guys for your very helpful replies. I pursued the driver update to 15.33 but both Windows and Drive Boost reported that the driver was up to date. I turned off all the options in the File I/O tab but that made no difference. So at this point, I am giving in to the fact - as you say - that the PC is simply not up to the job. I am irritated, however, that MS16 worked absolutely fine on this PC so when I upgraded to 17, there was no reason to suspect that there would have any issues ie nothing from MAGIX. On the upside, I am able to use 17 if I just use the simple MP4 option. And this is not so bad as most of my work is timelapse. Thanks again. Martin
