Project Display/Preview Screen

I recently needed to upgrade from Version 13 to 16 as the old version wouldn't play videos from the latest models of Smart Phones. Jumping from 13 to 16 was a big change and I am a little lost. My main issue is getting the display to be consistent across videos and photos, both in Portrait and Landscape. I simply want it to view like it will in the end product, but the sizes change and it's impossible to work with. I am currently using Preview>Half which is great for Landscape photos, but Portrait photos and videos are chopped off top and bottom. I just need it consistent to work on the project. I am using WIndows 7.

For portret view you need to use another projecttype than for landscape because the sourcefiles have total different pixel dimensions.
You can use one type of project for both but than you have to deal with cropping of the pictures for one or the other.

The size and shape of your Preview will be based on your project settings, not your media, Greg. So if your project is set up as 1920x1080 (16:9) and your photo is, say, 2500x1875 (4:3), your photo will not fit perfectly into your video frame. And that's true for every version of the product. You'll either get letterbox bars or lose some of the top or bottom of your photo.

Thanks. I do understand that and accept letterboxing as standard in the preview display and in the final product, but this is next level. I can't get a display that has all photos and video fitting into the display. The project is set at 1019 x 2160 x 32. The preview is set at 509x1080x32 (Half) & the Display is set at 743x1080x32. Landscape photos fit the display perfectly, but Portrait photos are missing the top and bottom of the photos and the same applies to video, depending on how it was filmed on the smart phone. I appreciate that the end project will be fine, but it's just really difficult to work with. The only way to see everthing properly is to set the display to Auto, but the images are too small to work with. The display on Version 13 never did this. There was also a Simple & Advanced Mode. Did Sony do away with that?

Hey Steve. Disregard my last comment. It was after reading what I wrote that I realised that my project settings were all wrong. I've since changed them to 1920x1080x32 and the display is perfect. Thanks for helping out. Much appreciated.
