Do you know if I can use a script to extend or enlarge the minimum and maximum limits in relation to those of the clip property in the playback rate field (limited between 0.250 and 4.000) without having to keep rendering? (This is because I can only do it in VPX and I'm thinking about returning to VP permanently!) (My clips involve slow motion between 2 and 5 seconds and I can mix native editor resources with ffmpeg)

No. Those are limits set by the Playback Rate control. You cannot go beyond the limits set on the screen.

Take a look at the Velocity Envelope which can go from -100% through 0% (freeze frame) up to 1000%.
