Project media - transitions

Ross-Jackson wrote on 6/27/2021, 1:54 AM

I have two questions

I originally made a slide show, with many slides. Multiple transitions. Looked great. Slides were out of correct viewing sequence for the holiday (different cameras had different numbering sequences).

1. Is it possible to move items in project media into a different position?

2. Put transitions to multiple slides?

I created a slide show which had multiple transitions, However the pictures were out of order for viewing as project media would not allow re-sequencing of the files. Can this be done? At present it displays alphabetically. Photos from different cameras. (There are lots. Too many to re-number. I had to manually move each numbered slide to the right sequence , placing each in the time line separately (Hundreds).

As I have now placed the slides in the order I wish to view into the time line. Can I apply assorted transitions to all the slides at once (hundreds)?

Regards

Ross

It was asked before and as far as I can recall VMS can't apply a transition "to multiple points" (my other NLE Corel VS, can do so for ages)

Regarding re order, I think your best option is to insert each slides sequence to a different track, then each will be more manageable.

Re the naming sequences of media, there's a great free utility called Bulk Rename Utility - https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/ - which allows for an imported group of media to be renamed as you choose and for those media events to be sequenced; e.g. xxxxxx001, xxxxxx002, xxxxxx003.

My AX100 camera, keeps numbering in sequence with stills on changing to a new memory card, but it doesn't with video, so each memory card used on the camera begins back at xxxxxx000. Ten memory cards used means I've got ten identically named video files. I have long used BRU to rename the media, one memory card at a time, so that the whole project's video files are named sequentially from xxxxxx0000 to xxxxxx3000 (or whatever the final number is). I do this just after transferring the video files from the memory cards to the computer - and before starting any work on the project in Vegas Pro.

The only downside is that BRU, being very flexible in its naming options and functions, is not all that easy to use and does take a while to get the naming and numbering the way you want it.

If the dates/times are correct on your cameras, for next time, you are able to select a Details view within the Project Media window, and from there you can sort by last Modified, and of course from there you can drag/drop the mass onto your video track. On the left column when in details view it will even give your media a sequence number. The sad part about this is that if you've edited any of the images, the last modified date will put it out of order, and there isn't an option to sort by "Date Created" or "Date Taken". :(

I have no solution on how to add a transition to multiple overlays, or an easy way to overlay hundreds of photos. :(

Insert/Slide Show/ Add pictures/ create, inputs into the time-line and gives all slides an automatic different transition. Anyone know if there is away to add the transitions to slides already in the timeline If not, ah well. I am renumbering each particular slide from each camera to its nearest in the folder. 540 from each camera. Was a great holiday

A transition in VMS can be dragged at an overlapping part of two events. Also a transition can be dragged at multiple overlapping points of a range of selected events in one action. In that case the transition must be dragged at an overlapping part of two events of the selected range:

NOVAdash wrote on 6/27/2021, 5:31 PM

Well that's just fantastic.

Ross-Jackson wrote on 6/28/2021, 5:34 PM

3POINT. That means the same transition is set for the selected event. I liked the assorted transitions in the slide show.

Just spent the day checking the dates of pictures of the two camera. Picture on camera 1 (imag111) title was copied, Camera 2, pictures of the same date were renamed as camera 1s title (imag111 a,b,c etc). All media files are now in correct viewing order for the time line. Slide show is done. Phew! Been good practice.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice

Found a way to do what I originally asked . The answer is 'Storyboard'.

----------------------------------------------------------

Original question

1. Is it possible to move items in project media into a different position?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

By using storyboard. I am able to move the slides to the position in the show that I would like them to be. No need to spend time renaming. Allows the slides to keep their transitions after moving.

I knew I had seen it, but could not remember where. Getting into the programme. Great fun.

Still time consuming, but time is what I have in lockdown.
