Project now render veg.4.sfap0 whenever I click off of Vegas 19?

Arch wrote on 4/2/2024, 11:36 PM

So I currently fixed the problem but I still don't know what caused the problem. I would like any info and help to prevent this from happening in the future and any tips in general.

Am editing around 2 hours of footage on Vegas pro 19. It worked fine before, occasionally it would freeze but would be fine, some crashed here and there but nothing crazy. I googled it and it seemed like it was a normal occurence. However now when I tab out it starts to render. It says ("Project Name").veg.3.sfap0 or veg.4.sfap0. I have deleted some files it used but it was never a big issue.

The footage was recorded with OBS and it's recorded in the .mp4 format. The encoder is x264 and audio encoder is FFmpeg AAC ( I don't know what any of this means besides .mp4 but I'm putting it here since it might be useful)

Whenever Vegas get's done rendering a "portion" or whatever my windows makes a generic noise. When it's all done I can click around on different stuff. I tried removing some files that were in the project but not in my folder because I assumed that was the problem and it started rendering again. I worked on this stuff for a long time and I don't want it to be un-recoverable.

My CPU is Ryzen 7 5800x and my GPU is a RX590. I have 16GB DDR4 RAM. I only added recorded sound effects and I used .jpg .png and .webp image files. I used some .GIFs but I was careful because some would really lag it up but the ones I used for this project didn't cause any problems and I actually deleted the most recent one I put in because I assumed it was causing problems.

I bought my copy from a humble bundle and in the white bar it just says "Vegas Pro 19.0".

Edit: I managed to render the footage and it's safe but it started rendering .veg.5.fap0 as soon as I clicked back on the window.

Edit 2: If links are not allowed please delete it but I found a post on reddit of someone recording what is exactly happening to me https://www.reddit.com/r/VegasPro/comments/vfzthr/sony_vegas_is_trying_to_render_itself_does_anyone/

Did you import a .veg file as media?

It sounds like the proxy files it makes to preview nested timelines. Just let it finish. If you didn't intend to add a .veg to your timeline just delete it from project media.

Arch, Vegas is trying to build an "Audio Proxy" file for you, because it won't work directly with the audio format you gave it.

If you interrupt the building of the proxy file, or delete the proxy file, Vegas will try to build it again the next time you open.

Your solution with this material is to let Vegas build the proxy file and use it for editing, even though it will take a while.

Your long term solution is to figure out why your files from OBS are incompatible and posting their media details here, so others can give you suggestions for future projects.

Or just follow the settings here:

Ok thank you. Also are the audio proxies supposed to be 2.1GB each? I was trying to clean my harddrive since it was near full and I found some stuff from vegas. My saves are only around 500MB but *each* proxy is around 2.1GB. And i have around 4.

Choose AAC Stereo 16 bit 48Khz next time you record and you won't need proxies, just time for the peaks to be built.

I will try but I'm confused because when I had edited a video before this did not happen at all. Then during the 2nd video i was able to edit for multiple days and it was fine until it suddenly happened. Like someone said I think the lag and crashed could be caused from bad source footage but I think the proxies could be because I accidently dragged in the .veg file into itself and even though I un-did it the file is still technically in the project.

There are only two possibilities that I can see:

  • The sfap0 files got thrown away when you cleaned house; or,
  • You recorded Vegas-friendly audio last time, and now you have something different.
  • The only way to see what codec you recorded this time, is to post the MediaInfo Properties as I've linked above.

Good luck!
