Since it's not possible to change the properties within a project, you can take one of a number of approaches based on your needs.

First of all, remember that the basic project properties do not affect the final render, only the preview. Therefore, one goal of matching your project properties is to optimize your preview playback.

With mixed media, you could:
-- Set the properties to match the majority of your footage,
-- Set the properties to match the smallest size footage (SD),
-- Set the properties to match your output (fewer surprises)

You need to be a bit careful when putting footage with mixed frame rates on the timeline. A search of this forum will make you aware of some of the pitfalls and special considerations you need to take when doing so.

ideally, work to the highest specified format: if the only fixed spec is DVD, work in that format. :)

I have this all the time I so what I do is create a project to my max size

Then create production templates once off templates “letter box or no if required ” then use production assistant to render the veg to multiple formats
