Projects won't load... error then crash

I've only had this software for a short while. I have three projects going, none more than a few minutes long. The last few days when I tried to open one project it would start to load and then stop saying "there was an error with data" and I retrieved this message from the errror window:

It means that it crashed. What kind of files did you put in the project, what camera did you use?
christopher523 wrote on 6/24/2009, 6:21 PM
.MOV .mp4 files, I'm using a Kodak Zi6. The strange thing is that when I open another project first, then I can usually open this project with out closing the other.

Do this for me:
1. Create a brand new project.
2. Create the right Project Properties. Use the "match media" icon in that dialog.
3. Open the problematic project in a new window.
4. Select ALL in the timeline, and copy/paste it to the new project.
5. Save the new project and continue editing from it in the future.

Although I must tell you to expect crashes in the future. Vegas simply doesn't work well with .mp4/.mov files from digirecorders. It's just not optimized for Quicktime work. For AVCHD, which also uses h.264 as in these mov/mp4 files, it uses a different decoder that's more stable. But for mov/mp4 it uses quicktime, and that create many crashes over time.

The right thing to do here is either use proxy files, or buy Cineform Neoscene. More info: http://www.cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3336

There is no "match media" icon in the Project Properties. Don't know where to go from here... don't have these options...

Yes you do. The yellow icon in the project properties dialog, the one where you mouse-over it has the popup tooltip of "match media".

OK, first of all THANK YOU for all of your help! You guys are great! So, sorry the little folder... got it! OK, now I've gotten into that project, pulled those .mp4 files. I then did all the proxy stuff you suggested on that link with SUPER and Rename-it (which I was already using rename-it! to get sound out of my .MOV Zi6 files). Anyway, if these are now .m2t files do I still need to use the "match media" button in project properties? Because when I do this it alters some things I had set. i don't need it to be HD just 16:9 and HQ is totally cool with me. Another question, does this matter how I render these projects when I'm done, meaning should I render them as .m2t files or should I still go with my custom HD .mp4 files?

As I figured out here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=659719&Replies=10
