I ran into this problem. I used multiple video tracks to achieve animated color changes.

It's surprisingly powerful. Behind that rather smooth, silky interface, there's a sharp, mean operator.

The problem I had was the lack of clarity on the interface. Often you don't know something can be changed (combo-box style) unless you click on it.

Once you know what can be clicked, it becomes very easy to use.

Shame that colour is not keyframeable, though.
