ProType: Carriage Return/Enter Works too!

Now this maybe something that I should take for granted, but . ..

I was playing with HappyFriar's Type TExt (?) XML Collection file yesterday, where the type is streaming out to the right, and I noticed that the line was getting too long for my screen. So, just for larfs, I hit ENTER to break up the line to "fit" the view ion my screen. Sure I got the text to fit, however I wasn't prepared to see that the typewriter effect to continue from left to right, break off and continue to type, left to right, on subsequent/following lines too! I am amazed at that, and something that I shall be exploring further.

Thanks Madison! And thanks HF!!

Ya thinks that's impressive, ha!

What about the OpenType stuff ??

i set it up so it continues with all the text you type. Take a look at some of the others, like "ninja stars", it only works good with two words.

What does open type mean exactly.
Pardon my ignorance.

The Open Type tab lets you set typographic things, like how fractions are displayed. For example do you want "1/4" displayed with a slash or with the 1 vertically over the 4 and a dash between.

Probably not describing this very well so here is a better explaination of what OpenType fonts are all about.

Digging further into this I find that OpenType fonts include things like borders. Given that the OpenType tab gives us access to full control of the font, one should be able to draw all manner of borders and decorative items.

I'd try this immediately myself but my V8 PC is running a render for the next 2 days. Anyone else tried this??

Processes-change to "low" & then you can run another instance no problem. Just change it back when you're done.

I've messed with the open font thing, specifically tried to put / through zero's. didn't do it for me.

I'd be pretty certain it will only work with the Open Type fonts. These appear in Fonts with a "O" icon. I most certainly had it work with fractions and leading capitals. I really want to try it with the border Open Fonts. If these can also be keyframed in ProType that would be awesome.

i didn't realize "open font" is a different type of font. my bad.

Don't feel bad, took me a while to figure that one out and it was by pure chance that I tried using the Open Type tab with an OpenType font.

A bit more about this in the online help / manua / release notes would have been good!

The features available in an OpenType font depend on the font. Fancy features generally cost $$. But then I haven't tried all the options with the fonts I have on hand.

Microsoft has several sample OpenType fonts available for download with the OpenType SDK. See MSDN: Sample OpenType Font Pack.

See examples of the font features (using the sample fonts) at MSDN: OpenType Font Features
