ProType titler issues

I've always hoped Vegas would have a real CG program (a la Chyron, Inscriber, etc) that could do much more than the simple Sony Text plugin. Protype seems to be answer, but it's missing many features. Help me out!

*Can't select multiple items at once (using ctrl, shift, etc.), and can't simply copy and paste objects, text blocks. What's up with that??

*No color picker? Really??

*No way to nudge scaling values and no "lock X and Y" feature for offset, scale, etc.

*Why not default to HSV instead of RGB sliders for everything.

*The sliders for values seem VERY touchy. A small movement makes a huge adjustment.

*When scaling text using handles (not corner handles), it always scales from center even with "center" set to "near baseline". Not sure why that is.

*Unlike any other CG program (Photoshop included), there's no way to have a checkerboard grid as the background. The solid color looks like... a solid color is being used as background instead of alpha. I even turned the alpha on the color selection down to 0. The custom color thumbnail shows the checker pattern, but the workspace is still a solid color.

*Glow effect limited, can't produce actual edge/outline. The stroke feature helps, but it'd still be nice to have an edge feature.

*Font selection is VERY cumbersome, particularly when I just want to scroll through the font list and pick the one I like. Rolling the mouse wheel jumps through too many at once. If a font is selected, then I want to resume where I left off in the list, it jumps back to the top of the list. Yes it's nice that "recent fonts" are at the top, but its a cumbersome design on a system that has lots of fonts installed. Sony Text makes font selection very easy.

*And speaking of fonts, I've searched and searched and still don't know why ProType titler won't recognize Type 1 fonts. The Sony Text tool has them, but not ProType.

I could go on, but those are the main issues. It seems like a powerful little titler app, but it's either missing some very basic features, or I've just not figured it all out yet. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I just ordered the VASST training disc which includes ProType Titler, because it seems to have a steep learning curve and I don't use it often enough to retain what I eventually learned last time.

Not being able to simply copy and paste is really annoying, but you can use templates instead.

Its not quite so effecient, but it does work when you get used to it.

In my view it's basically a half finished program that has potential. Whether they will continue to develop it is anyones guess.

here's a dumb answer but at times you can do a basic tittle in Pro Titler to get it the way you want it, then manipulate with effects or track motion. It is much easier sometimes.

peace.
