4 different ones, if you add Credit Roll.

"Legacy Text" for straight and solid text builds with simple movements.

"Credit Roll" specialized for long crawls and rolls.

"ProType Titler" allows to add effects to single letters, add more type of effects, offer effect collections and supports a broader base of typography.

"Titles & Text" seems" to be based on "(Legacy) Text" with a more modern GUI and some intro and outro effects.

I would need only one.

I think Pro Type Titler gives you a little more control over the animation than Titles & Text. For instance, if you were wanted to do a type writer effect like this:

I don't think you could do it as easily in the others.

For some reason, 99% of the time I use Legacy Text (Maybe cause it is the closest to the bottom and my hand is lazy?).

Titles and Text apparently allows some third party intervention. Some features of Vegasaur can change the Titles and Text but not Legacy.

I like legacy text for most things, but protype comes into play too. I can only imagine titles and text is the favorite one among the developers as the Text button in the UI only applies to it. Which is annoying BTW

Titles&Text is the standard Titler in VegasPro and Vegas Movie Studio and a replaces the (old) Legacy text. The Protype Titler in VegasPro is "a stranger in our midst", looks like a third party plugin with it's deviating UI.

What do you guys think of third party titlers like new blue or Boris?

I'm not talking about be doing super fancy things but just normal lower thirds stuff like text and lines.

Marco. wrote on 5/17/2019, 8:26 AM

Then why not use the build-in ones? What do you miss?

Former user wrote on 5/17/2019, 8:32 AM

I like Pro Type Title. But I think it deserves an update.

NewBlue and Boris are fantastic if you want to go for titles with multi-colors, extrusion, 3D movement, etc - but you say you don't want super fancy - then stick with VP's included titlers until such time as they don't meet your requirements.

I assume third-party titlers have better presets (the animations and things pre-built into Vegas are pretty - let's say - 1980s.
Hehehe...
Also, things like background bars and lines just take more work then they should.
To me, you shouldn't need to create 7 video tracks for a couple lines of text and some background coloring.

The trailer for titler pro looks amazing and I tried the free trial. The presets however depend on what version you get and I think the best ones are locked behind ultimate. It felt pretty sluggish on my system (personal problem) and there is a learning curve. I recommend checking out the free trial, subscribing to get updates from newblue in email and if you like it buy it at the next sale. I also recommend everyone look at hitfilm express which I think can make really nice titles and is free.

"Also, things like background bars and lines just take more work then they should."

Simple background bars like this one only need one track and event (title included):

For complex ones I use to treat text and background separately. While I always make the text in Vegas itself, the background then is created either in a graphic/designer tool or in another Vegas Pro project which I use as a nesting preset.

I guess I don't know how to do background color and text on one track.
I would have to use a text on a track and a solid color that's been resized on another track.

I never thought about using an image.
Hehehe...
I had forgotten about nesting projects, though.
Thanks...

The background color is a feature of each build-in titling tool right beneath the text color. Then use Pan/Crop to crop the whole thing to the desired size. See here how's done with (Legacy) Text (sorry, German GUI only):
