proxies

Hi...When importing 4k files, proxies are created automatically...so says the manual. Now, when i open a bunch of files in a new project (mixed HD and 4K) ...it start building proxies. Although...when i create a 2nd project (same settings)....and input the same bunch of moviefiles...it does not create proxies. Opening and switching again and again with the 2 projects give the same results. The 1st project build proxies..the 2nd not....How come? Grtz

Why should proxies of the same source files be build twice? Once created they are available for all projects.

Hi Marco, thnx for replying. You're right....but the weird thing is or what i mean is....i'm talking "the first beginning" of the buildingprocess. There are no complete proxies already made, when i open the project.

The proxies are stored alongside the source files. So, if you generate them once, they will simply be reused in the other project - similar to the SFK peak files for audio files.

If you quite in the middle of making the proxies, then just delete the incomplete files and let it rebuild them.

Personally, I always suggest creating your own proxies and then using "Swap Files" to change between them. VEGAS' in-built proxies are always 720p XDCAM and are only used if you are using Draft or Preview quality playback in the NLE.

You can create your own 1080p ProRes/XAVC-I Proxies and they will work on full quality on any decent machine, and you just swap back to the 4K originals before you render your timeline.

That way, you can do almost everything without constantly upping and dropping the playback quality while editing.

I hope in VP17 that they've added Project Options for:

1. What Resolution and CODEC to use for Proxies

2. Where to store Proxy Media

3. Allow you to use Proxies above Draft Preview playback quality.

Another workaround is to move all of the Proxy files to a different directory, and then rename them to *.MP4 files. Then use Swap Video to them and you can avoid the issue with playback quality requirements... However, they will only be 720p, and generally should be fine with 1080p off of UHD/4K video source files.

Thnx. But the problem is....there are no proxies already built in the 1st project. I'm now working in the same, 2nd project with 4k files, but with no proxies, very weird.
