Same folder as the original file with an added sfvp0 extension. e.g. Original.mxf.sfvp0.

You don't "have" to delete the proxy files but you can save disk space.

The proxy files are in the same folder as the media file itself and with the same file name but with an extension of .sfvp0

Hi Willem, thanks.

Thanks Norman. I found them after reading Willem's reply. On a two hour wedding, they take up a lot of space so I will be deleting them now that I have finished the project. Thanks. Ken

Yes, hopefully a future Vegas will give us more control of the proxy files. Cleaning up and creation.

The proxies are 24 fps 35 Mbps VBR mpeg-2 files. The frame rate is not resampled from your source frame rate. Just encoded as though it were 24. I had some 1080p60 GoPro files and my machine can't quite handle 60fps. So I proxied and I freaked at the file size. The bitrates were about the same but due to the frame encoding Vegas does for the proxy the files were 2.5 time bigger than the source. 60 / 24 = 2.5.

I use Vegasaur which gives me much more control over proxies. The Vegas ones while high quality are overkill for many of us.

Gearshift or Proxy script third party is the best of all. SCS made some real compromises to get their style of proxy working.

Hi. I have Cineform Neoscene which I use from time to time on short projects, but the file sizes are way bigger than the Sony proxy files, so when, as in this case, I am doing a two camera edit on a wedding, I would rather not use Cineform. Thanks.

Ken

( I am going to investigate Vegasaur )

Cineform is a codec used by pros as a digital intermediate. Search the term. It is not practical as a "proxy" in the traditonal sense of NLE use of proxy. It can be incorporated as a file intermediate or backup by way of proxy methods although I cannot find good reason to do this.

Vegasaur can create Vegas style and compatible smart proxies or it can do the media swap way.

Vegas smart proxies are always 720, but with the new Vegasaur smart proxy feature I have created 540 proxies (960x540). Vegas will accept any input format Vegas understands in an sfvp0 file. I also like that Vegasaur can optionally watermark the proxy so it blatantly obvious when you are looking at the proxy.
