The way Vegas punches in is a bit different than the way other apps
do it. Lots of power here. Look at the section

"Recording into an Event With a Time Selection"

in the help file for some details. Be sure to click on the Related
Topics button for some more details and discussions.

Here are the basic steps:

1. Create a track (or use an existing one)
2. Select a range/region on the time line
3. Right click on the track and select "Insert Empty Event". Create
as many events as you want punch in/out points.
4. Place these new events on the time line were you want.
5. Select the events you want to "record" into. (Note, you can also
select an event that already has data and the new recording will be
added as a new take.)
5. Arm the track for record
6. Record

Audio will be recorded into the selected events only. You can set up
as many tracks and events as you desire.

A variation on this is to set up the events and select them. Then set
a loop that will include all or part of these events. Turn on "Loop
Playback" and hit the record button. This will record into the
selected events and then on looping, it will record again into the
events as a second, third, etc take. You can then select the take
from the events right click menu or from the Edit Menu.
