So far I know, most TVs will just detecting MP4 or other supported medias, but not able to 'replicate' whole menu systems like Blu-ray.

I spent all day trying to do it. When I put it on usb it adds all seperately and not a whole thing. I'm guessing if I plug it in to dvd player a blu ray USB won't work?

Thank you

When creating a bluray burn in either DVD Architect or directly from Vegas Pro, an .iso file is created which is then used by the program to burn to a BD disc. In both programs, the destination to which the .iso file is saved is user selectable. The .iso file, which in the one file contains the entire BD data including the menus, can easily be copied to a USB memory stick or card, but the difficulty is then finding a device that can deal with an .iso file. When looking in to this some years ago, one of the only media players that could play the .iso format was Dune, but even then there were user comments on a forum saying that Dune wouldn't display menus. Apart from Dune, I've not known of any PVR, DVD or BD player that can play an .iso file from a memory stick or external/portable HDD. With regard to TVs, you'd need to check the TV's specs for playable media formats.

A way to possibly get around this is get and install on your computer Cyberlink DVD PowerDVD 20 which does play .iso BD files with all menus. If on a laptop which has dual screening, its then only a matter of connecting the laptop to the TV via an HDMI cable. It could be even easier if there is media streaming available to the TV.

Hi

Thank you for your help. It's a shame it can't go on usb and you can put it straight into the tv. Half of the people I am going to be handing it out to are going to miss out on the menus.

It seems to work well on vlc. Can I download vlc on the USB and then poeple can download it on their tv then they can watch the blu ray with the menus? Or won't this work

Thank you

Kristina

Here's the alternative 'compiling' way that I google-searched

Using HTML coding creating 'menu' - but again, you must do the playback via PC computer. TV with USB port won't able to detect it.

Description on detailed info available in the youtube's page of this video.

*not endorsing, but just pointing out. I also did similar menu-making as well a year ago via web-menu when delivering final video to client.

Unfortunately the only way to play a blu ray video on a modern TV - and even some older TVs - is to just render out an MP4 file in AVC/AAC and the TV will only play the video. No special menus are available for this method.

You would need them to use your blu ray disc to see your menus. Else don't bother with anything else but just a AVC/AAC file they can just watch.

You can't just put the blu ray file structure on a USB flash drive and expect anything to work like a disc would - that is just not possible.

It's blu ray disc in a blu ray player or 1 mp4 file on a flash drive.

One exception would be to put the ISO image of your blu ray disc on a flash drive and open the ISO with Windows 10's explorer to "mount" the ISO as an imaginary disc drive and any programs that play blu rays can open it as a blu ray disc with your menus. This is not available on TVs. It would be better to copy the ISO to the local disc rather than play it off the USB drive. VLC media player can play your blu ray ISO if you didn't put any encryption on it in DVDA7.

I just copy my Blu-ray m2ts files to a usb flash drive which my 7 year old Panasonic TV plays without problems. The audio in my m2ts files is ac3. Should I use PCM then the audio doesn't play as my TV doesn't recognise wav audio in a video file yet it will play wav as a "music" file.

Kristina-Redmond wrote on 2/9/2021, 12:25 PM

Hi

I'm sorry for asking this but how do i make my main video a mp4 so I can give it out and people can just stick the USB in their tv? I need the video and the audio all in 1 mp4 file?

Thank you

Kristina

Teagan wrote on 2/9/2021, 12:41 PM

Go back to your project in your editing program and render out as h.264 (AVC) with AAC audio. Don't render as a blu ray compatible file in a blu ray template. Use a template for internet video.

Don't use any video bitrate above around 50Mb/s and keep the audio bitrate at or below 256Kb/s.

Kristina-Redmond wrote on 2/9/2021, 12:56 PM

Can I render as mp4 in vegas pro?

Thank you

Kristina

Teagan wrote on 2/9/2021, 1:15 PM

Yes you can. If your original project wasn't in vegas pro (I think you used premier?) you can just drag your rendered blu ray files into vegas and make sure the audio is synced properly and render out from there so you don't have to redo your editing/clipping/etc.

Kristina-Redmond wrote on 2/9/2021, 1:23 PM

Thankyou. Can I have the video and audio all in 1 mp4 then rather than 2 separate files?

Thank you

Kristina

Teagan wrote on 2/9/2021, 2:41 PM

Yes, with an mp4 for tv and pc viewing you can put audio and video in one file.

Kristina-Redmond wrote on 2/9/2021, 3:06 PM

I normally have my audio in pcm format but there's only aac choice. Does it matter? All I'm doing is putting it on to usb and then the clients can just put the USB in whatever tv they have?

Thank you

Kristina

Teagan wrote on 2/9/2021, 3:10 PM

PCM is uncompressed, and is very large in size. AAC would be ideal since it is heavily compressed, and it saves space.

Yes, this MP4 in AVC/AAC format can be read by almost any device, including TVs, blu ray players with USB ports, and PCs. Just make sure the size is not bigger than 1920x1080 and the bitrate is not bigger than about 40Mb/s and that the audio is at or less than 256Kb/s for most compatibility on more devices. It may be best to use 23.976 or 29.97 fps if your source is 25fps, if I remember correctly. Although most new devices should be able to play 25fps - I just don't have much experience with PAL sources.

set wrote on 2/9/2021, 3:15 PM

Just make sure the file size is still under 4GB limit, as the TV playable USB flashdisk drive requires to be FAT32-formatted - and that means any file in FAT32 is max-limited for 4GB.

My TV recognizes NTFS but most older ones would probably not. FAT32 is a safer thing to aim for. So that 4GB file max size sounds wise.

Kristina-Redmond wrote on 2/9/2021, 3:29 PM

Good memory teagan. Yes my source is 25p so shall I use 24p and do I need to check that box to allow the source to adjust or do I just leave it?

Thank you set yes I don't know why fat32 format is so small but you can re format it ntfs and that's big enough memory to put my film and it still works in my tv and my parents tv

EricLNZ wrote on 2/9/2021, 3:58 PM

If the source is 25 isn't it best to stay at 25? Re-rendering to 24 might give quality issues. Surely all TVs in the US can play any framerate from a usb drive?

@Kristina-Redmond Like me you live in PAL land so definitely stick with 25.

I would assume so.

I in Indonesia also being used to 25p standard... so I always stick with that for most projects... except if main sources are 23.97 or 30p (29.97p) - that's going to be different.

Thank you
