Puzzling Net Render time

Larry_Sheehan wrote on 4/15/2010, 2:47 PM
I have a 34 minute project which takes 32 minutes to render to AVI with my Phenom x4 machine as the sole renderer (no network rendering).

When I start 2 additonal renderers the segment renders take about 25 minutes, but then the stitching takes an additional 15!

Does this seem right?

BTW: I'm running vegas pro 9.0c (downloading 9.0d now)

That's about what I have found, but I gave up on net rendering after VP 8. It used to work "best" when all the PCs were fast and about the same speed, you utilized RAID arrays on all of them and you had a gigabit network.

OK, Thanks. Would it make any difference if I used larger segment size?
This project gets broken into 91 segments.
It seems like the stitching would be faster with fewer segments.

Of course I'll experiment for myself tomorrow.

Don't use distributed rendering unless you have a minimum of two idle machines on with identical CPUs and big, fast SATA drives, on a gigabit network.

Just assign your rendering to another computer on your network, sit back, and surf.
