pyro dv basic, sony DVMC-DA2 , and vegas video...

im currently putting together a small editing suite and im
wondering if i have chosen the right configuration.. sonic
foundry seems to report great success with this combination
of hardware and software..

my question is does it really make a difference if i
purchse the pyro dv basic as opposed to the non basic
version...? the price difference is 100 dollars as opposed
to 50 dollars for the basic.. its not a big deal but i dont
want to pay for software im not going to use..

also , i hate the fact that the vegas capture utility
cannot do batch capturing.. will the software that comes
with the pyro dv basic perform batch capturing functions
with a codec thats compatible with vegas video along with
my dv camcorder?? im assuming if it does the capturing
software doesnt come with the pyro basic model and i would
need to purchase the non basic..

the machine will be running windows 2k on a pretty basic
8mb diamond video card until i upgrade to a matrox card..

thanks for any help and/or suggestions...

your combo is just like mine. and it works great. i can't tell you about the software that came with the pyro basic
card cuz i don't use it. i only use vegas. what you might hate more than not having batch capture is no batch
print to tape. if you ever find an app that does that let me know. i'm hoping that the new premiere will have it. or
better yet the next version of the vegas capture app. are you SF guys listening?

btw you can get premiere 6 for only $200 as a registered owner of a pyro card. it's on pyros website. however
even though i plan on getting this i'm still sticking with vegas. the interface is way more intuitive than premiere. i
only suggest it cuz for $200 it's such a deal.

Batch capture and batch print are definitely high on the
list for the next full version; Fall '01

i have the basic pyro. i think it was 60-70 ? it came with
some editing studio by ulead AND also on the disk is media
studio VE ( video editng software only) pro 6 ..and that
comes with a separte BATCH capture program . just read the
directions on it and should not have any problems batch
capturing ..
running win 2K here ... V capture does capture the original
time code #'s ... the ulead batch capture does NOT ...

Fall 01.... hmmm, I guess that would be Spring here in
Australia.. Sometime around September or October perhaps?
Any other features you're allowed to mention that we can
look forward to also?

The advantage of batch print if implemented per my mind's
eye, would allow you to produce several separate .avi
files, gather them together within VegasCapture (or
whatever SF decides to call the print-to-tape module), and,
output the whole collections, one after the other,
seamlessly to tape.

Forgive me for being redundant, but, I currently have to
export my VV2.0b avi's to StudioDV to accomplish this.
Works fine, but would rather spend all my time in VV.

In addition to batch print, I hope titling enhancements are
somewhere on the upper third of that enhancement wish list.
