QT Compression recommendations?

Right now I use SUPER to encode H264 videos in a .mov wrapper.

At low bitrates though regular QT movies look pretty bad using Sorenson 2 which is also part of Super.

I know some others like Jay were happy awhile back with Sorenson 3 Compression suite for Quicktime. It seems to do a nice job at low bitrates which is where Quicktime often falls short.

Any new software recommendations for low bitrate quality Quicktime video?

h264 files look very good at low bitrates. Are you wanting to use another compression?

They require Quicktime 7. Not all Mac users have that nor want that installed. For web video it used to be that Sorenson 3 looked the best at low bitrates played on earlier versions of QT. I was wondering if there was anything around that wasn't as expensive as the SV compression suite.

Quick Time Pro is $30 and includes the Sorenson 3 compressor.

Every time I read a thread here on that software I never seem to get a handle on whether it works as well. I wish someone who uses it regularly would post some examples. It certainly is a bargain.

Thanks Dave,

John

PS: Have you tried Super for H264? It really works well for free software.

Get details of the MainConcept decoder here:

Will this not be included with 7e?

It isn't the H264 encoding I was asking about. It was the regular Quicktime encoding I wanted software for based upon first hand experience. As I mentioned, I know Jay uses Sorenson 3 (from the Sorenson Compression suite) and likes it.

Oh sorry - question read too quick - I use the QT encoder. I don't see why anything else would be better.
