QT files not showing video - only audio

A colleague has sent me some QT files rendered out from her Final Cut Pro 2.0 timeline to .MOV format. Problem is, only the audio shows up.

Tried playing them in latest Quicktime Pro - same thing. Ran Gspot on the files, says unknown codec but shows HDV2 as the format - any ideas how to get these files to work inside Vegas or does she need to render them out again in Final Cut Pro.

If so - what format can I get from her so that I can work with them in Vegas Pro 8 - I am loathing more and more FCP and it's proprietary file formats.

If you open them in QT, it will tell you what codec was used.

I have had probs like that too, in V7 though. - I upgraded to latest QT and all is fine now.

Still no go on getting this to work - I have QT Pro 7.5.5 and it does not recognize the codec.

Guess she'll have to render a DVD and I'll just extract the content that way - it's for the web so it should turn out fine.

This is one of my biggest gripes about FCP - non-standard codecs being used that make it virtually impossible to hand off files back and forth seamlessly.

Cliff I have the same problem, and there appears to be no way to read these files

I found out that the format is m2v1. with a MOV extension
From what I can gather this is a wrapper produced by iMovie or FCP on the
Mac, and can not be read within windows.
I have searhed the net, but have not found a codec, or utility that can convert it to an editable format for Vegas.

Final Cut Pro 2.0 or do you mean FCP Studio 2?

if it's the latter, have her render to ProRes and send you those files - you can get the ProRes decoder from Apple - will play great in Vegas.

I'm running into the same problem: one of my videographers had an EX1, and he just gave me a HDD with a 35 minute mov clip (rendered with FCP) which I can only hear the audio and not see the video. I ran QT/Window/Movie Inspector, and it said the format is " XDCAM EX 1080p24 (35 Mb/s VBR). Is the only solution as stated as above (rendering to the ProRes format)?
