QT vs wmv

I have been rendering some web files to both wmv and QT using the 512 templates. The QT audio is noticbly worse, it has that metallic resonance sound.

I have QT6.5 (I bought pro) but vegas still says QT5. Do I need to render outside of Vegas for best results?

Even rendering outside of Vegas won't allow QT to match the current quality of WMV at identical bitrates until you hit around 3 meg. Even with QT 6.5. They are trying, but it's still not as good.

Vegas uses the version of QuickTime that you have installed. The format name is unfortunately not dynamically updated to reflect this. Even though you may have QT 6.5 installed, for example, Vegas will still call it QuickTime 5 in the dropdown.

To get the best quicktime, you want Cleaner + the sorenson pro codecs. It's about equal to or lesser quality than the free WMP codecs. It depends on what you encode too. Considering the price of Windows Media Encoder (free), it's hard to beat...!

For audio, try IMA (big but decent quality) or MPEG4 audio (requires QT6 to play back).
