QT vs. WMV

I recently exported a video as .wmv, but a mac-based friend, couldn't open it. So I exported him a "special" verison as .mov. All that I can say is, the .wmv looks way, way better for the same size. Is .wmv just that much better? Or is the quicktime that Vegas exports not up to snuff?

I've never had any luck with QT - huge files with tons of pixelation. I haven't offered anything other than WMV for almost two years now and have NEVER gotten a complaint.
