Quality...Capture vs. Vegas Timeline?

I noticed that when I am capturing the DV footage from my camcorder in Vegas using the Vegas capture utility the preview
is amazing, crisp, clear! When that same footage is on the
Vegas timeline it is a little blurry, dark, not so great looking?
I preview with "Preview (Auto)" Even when I preview with "Best"
it's still the same. Is Vegas doing something to the quality of the captured DV file? Are there some settings I can tweek to make
the quality better?

Regards,

Alex

If you are ever in the "Auto" mode, and have the window sized down, the media is being rescaled. The footage quality is the same regardless of the preview quality you choose. Size the Preview Window to the same size as you see it in Capture, set to Best and you'll see the same quality of media.

Try:
right click the video preview window
toggle simulate device aspect ratio

That is one way in which Vegas may be rescaling your video.

Vegas is 'dumbing down' the quality so your system doesn't choke and die. Unless you've got one Bad @$$ Steven Spielberg system... Vegas will do this. --Actually, I think Vegas will still do this on a Bad @$$ Steven Spielberg system as it's performance is totally based on your system's specs.

The output will still be top notch though so no worries!

Beatnik, another idea:
Maybe you aren't using the Sony DV codec?

Deep down in the preferences somewhere, there are things to:
ignore third party DV codecs
use/not use the Microsoft DV codec (don't use it)
