Quality loss after rendering with Vegas Video!?

hi,

i have exactly the same problem like oliver (thread 4524).
but i wouldn't say it looks like jpg-artefacts. to me it
looks like a slightly used pixelate-effect.

it appears on vegas-rendered videos - espacially in scenes
in which i used the inbuild plugins (i.e. contrast &
brigthness)and when i render material more than once (but
with the same settings).

i always use raw dv-material from my sony dcr pc 100
and render with the following settings:

interpolate fields (yes)
best quality
PAL DV
resample every frame (yes)
progressive scan (yes)

any help is highly appreciated - i'd really like to know if
SF or other users have made the same experience,

regards,

fred.

A few things that might help:

1) Install DirectX8. This has a vastly superior DV codec.
We're been testing with DX8 for awhile now, and it looks.
We'll be putting out a DX8 certified version in the near
future.

2) Use the PAL DV project settings.

3) You do not need to resample every frame. Use this
selectively, on an event by event basis if possible.
Definitely don't do this in multiple re-renders- you'll for
a un-needed recompress.

4) Since you are rendering to progressive, I'm going to
assume your raw footage is also progressive. If not, change
the media properties of the video events to progressive

5) You might also want to experiement with your deinterlace
method- if all the footage is progressive, set to none.

It can be tricky to get pristine, broadcast quality video,
and there are plenty of switches to throw that may (or may
not) make things better. I'm willing to bet the steps above
will help. A few scientific, one-change-at-a-time
experiments will also shed some light on what setting are
best for you.
