Quality Loss Using Video FX

Is there a loss in image quality when I adjust brightness or contrast using Video FX? - like there would be if I did that kind of editing with a JPG still photo? Or does the AVI file retain quality like a TIF or BMP file? I seem to see increased "digitizing" on events I have edited. Or is this due to something else?

When you've applied a video effect, your preview of it in Screenblast will look rough or it may even stutter a bit, depending on the speed of your computer.

Once you render and output it, however, it will play smooth and look great.

The vast majority of AVI's (including DV-AVI's) use lossy compression similar to JPEG's.

Messing with brightness and contrast shouldn't add artifacts, although they might make them more apparent.

It is possible that the increased artifacts are due to excessive recompression. You really can't take a highly compressed video (anything for the Internet, i.e., DivX, MPEG,etc) and recompress it. Quality drops drastically. I'm sure you have experienced this with JPEG files. If you open/save too many times you get mush. Same thing with video.
