Question about chroma keying...

I have made a couple of chroma-key'd AVI clips, just of people standing around or whatever.

Now I want to overlay these clips onto another scene.....

If you play the AVI's, you just see the people with the completely black background now, and when I put these clips above the main track, that's all you see is the people and black background.

How can I now make it work?

If your video was shot against a black background, use the Mask Generator FX with the Luminance Mask preset. If you used a colored background, then use the Chroma Keyer FX instead and match the colors correctly. Also, make sure you have some other image or video as a "background" track so you will see something when you make parts of your foreground video transparent. Otherwise, the default background for transparency is black.

Thanks Tech Diver, that's what it was....

I've done "some" with green screen and stuff... my mind was drawing a blank here.

Here's the finished result (not perfect, but now I have the idea)

If, after you chromakeyed out your background, you want to export an AVI video with the transparency (to use as an overlay), render as an uncompressed AVI and have the box checked to include alpha channels. But it only works with uncompressed files, not DV.
