Question about .FLV Video

MadMaverick wrote on 5/11/2015, 4:03 AM
I download various online videos using a program called iLivid (for my own personal viewing). Videos I download are generally in .mp4 format or .flv format. With .mp4 there will be a thumbnail to represent the video. This can be pretty nifty cause the titles to alot of videos for some reason will be gibberish. .Flv videos however don't have thumbnails. It'll just be blank and feature the logo of whatever media player is set to open it with (like the VLC media player cone).

Is there any way to enable thumbnails for videos that are .flv? It'd make life much easier... especially when there's several blank videos with gibberish for titles.

Thumbnails are a Windows feature.
FLV is an Adobe format.
It isn't something that could be easily done, I suspect.

If it's an Adobe format, couldn't they easily add thumbnails?

No Windows generates the thumbnail icon.
It's not in the file.

No Windows generates the thumbnail icon.
It's not in the media file. Place a few videos on your desktop and push F5.

Adobe could easily (perhaps) give Microsoft the necessary code to produce the thumbnails.

I'd also suggest renaming the files to meaningful names. I do this with almost everything i download.

MS could easily do it.
Microsoft has its own competing media platforms, so I would be surprised if it ever happens.

A third-party could do it as well. Case in point, Ardfry Imaging has created a Windows extension so Adobe Photoshop PSD and PFB files can have image icons.

That's interesting to know.
VLC would do well to concoct their own thumbnail scheme, as they play all the MS-unfriendly video formats.
