Question about Installing my Firewire card

Videomonster wrote on 1/17/2003, 10:15 PM

I just bought a firewire card from western digital and had some questions mabee someone can answer for me. On the Hardware page for Vegas Video, it says : "Note: Do not install any DV drivers that are included with your card. To ensure proper operation, you must use the DV drivers that are included with the Windows operating system" How do I install the windows drivers, and not the one that came with the card? On the card manual it says that I have to install the drivers. I have windows xp.

I'm very confused! Please Help!

Make sure card is OHCI, very important. Install the card in any slot except for the one next to your AGP video card, reboot and let windows install new hardware, no need to install drivers, it's already in win XP

You bought a non-ohci firewire card. That's why it's instructing you to install the drivers. Drivers for OHCI cards, which is what VEGAS uses, are included in the XP, Win2K, and Win98sE operating systems. Take the card back and get an OHCI card like a Pyro, SIIG, or Unibrain. In fact, MOST cards are now OHCI compliant, you happened to buy one that isn't.

Install the card and XP installs the correct drivers for you.
If you want to view them: right click on the "My Computer" icon; click on "properties"; click on the "Hardware" tab; click on "Device Manager"; click on "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers"; right click on "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller"; click on "properties"; click on "device Drivers" tab; click on "Driver Details" and you should see 5 listed Windows\System32\DRIVERS\ with different extensions.

Use the Add New Hardware wizard if it doesn't show up. And yes, the Western Digital Firewire card IS OHCI compliant.
Quote from WDC website:

According to the knowledge base at WDC:

NEC OHCI drivers or Western Digital OHCI drivers will both work in Windows XP. Both are on the XP installation disk.
