I select a section, create a region, hit save, but when I go to explorer view and select region view none of my regions are there. Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a bug? Thanks
The advantage to MXF files is that Vegas runs better than with native AVCHD or HD files. So when doing effects (transitions, color correction, etc. etc.) you can get a full preview frame rate ..or at least much smoother ... Now of course this depends largely on the power of your CPU. If you are running Twin Xeon's or a very fast i7 you may not need MXF files. But if you a running slower CPU's, it will help tremendously. I'm running an i5-750 and I find it helps me work faster and smoother when using lots of transitions. I don't really need to transcode -- but I run smoother if I do. The "region" problem you ran into is not an issue for me, as I use a different workflow.
Glad you got a solution. BTW, I didn't realize Proxy Stream works in 64 bit now. I'm testing it .. not sure that it does ! .. I know it works in 32 bit.
The only other problem I have with the script is that if there's anything on the time line when the conversion starts, it's gone by the time the conversion is done. What's up with that?
Because I'm having a lot of problems using it in my 64 bit version that the problems I'm assuming that it DOESN'T work in my version. Are there any other solutions to change my files to mxf? It sure it nice to have regions working :-)
If i only have a few files i render them to Sony .mxf one at a time, manually. If i have a bunch i load them all onto a track, set regions around each clip, and use the Batch Render script that is included with Vegas.
Your problem may be using the script in 64 bit Vegas. I can't get it to run. It loads but doesn't run for me ... If you got it to run, I don't know how ... .
You can download 32 bit Vegas V10 and install it side by side with 64 bit Vegas and run both at once if you like. .. use the same serial number you are using for 64 bit. Perfectly legit. Proxy Stream will run in 32 bit Vegas.
I don't think the script allows you to preserve the timeline, rather it asks you if you want to "save" anything on an existing timeline knowing it will not preserve it. Hey! .. It's freeware and it really does a great job.
If I have 50 files to convert prior to even starting an edit, I put them all in one directory and use Proxy Stream to convert to MXF to a diff directory .... much easier - faster than batch render. IF during an edit I have a few events that need to be converted that already exist on the timeline, batch render is simple and fast. Good to know both tools.
I would guess that Proxy Stream probably has a lot more features and configurable settings. Batch Render can only make use of templates that you've already set up manually.
Personally, i'm not a scripting type person. I feel that a very simple, basic script is better than a fancy one, and that often no script at all is better than using a script. But that's just me.
Yes Sony.mxf is the best for Vegas but we need a faster workflow, WE NEED TO EDIT AS NATIVELY AS POSSIBLE . AVID today DOES IT. EDIUS does IT.
Why SONY u leave a thousand of P2 users outside? (yes Raylight but not markers also)
Why SONY said that u have NOW support for EOS files movies but u Can't use the trimmer tools markers, regions that are MUST HAVE for pro/ broadcast stuff.
Sony must OVERCOME the issues with APPLE and PANASONIC and bring serious support for Quicktime and other file formats .
I love Vegas . I teach Vegas. I believe Vegas. but come on let's get a serious...
For mxf transcode i use the Rhozet Carbon Coder (it has Sony .mxf natively) and sometimes the Proxy Stream (also for P2mxf to Sony mxf )
note* Sony Vegas Pro 9 works fine with EOS files and markers on trimmer.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Having to convert videos takes time and it's a pain in the ass. I should be able to work with any format I want especially for the price of this program.
I too believe in Vegas and I'm prepared to overlook this, but it would certainly be nice for Sony to get their S*&^ together.
But still, I've tried other editors and I have a thing for Vegas. Sometimes people tell me it's not a serious program but, I only laugh because I've been through this before with audio editors vs. Protools before. Vegas is great, and could be the best with some minor tweaks--the regions in mp4's would certainly be one of them.
is there any other way to transcode files from a format into .mxf other than using a script in vegas? Any stand-alone programs that do it? Or are there any other just as good formats that might be easier to transcode to giving me similar results?
I found this thread from a couple of years ago and find that it is still relevant for me today. The last part of the thread switches to a discussion about proxy stream software but the first part deals with mpeg4 files not saving markers and regions correctly.
Mpeg4 files (XDCAM proxy files in this case) will not automatically save my markers and regions that are selected in the trimmer. As you know, in the preferences, there is a tick box for "automatically save markers and regions in trimmer" but it is having zero effect on my mpeg4 files.
I can save them correctly in Vegas9 but 11 and 12 won't do it. Current tedious workaround is to bring the clip into trimmer in Vegas9 which works correctly and then open the same file in V11 or V12.
I submitted a support ticket today on this as this is a big deal for me.
